Initial discussions with client were for minor works to their existing house involving replacement of an existing window with a bi-fold door and a small deck with a possible swimming pool in the back yard.  The project evolved into a full scale, two storey addition incorporating the originally intended ground floor works, a new master bedroom suite & study on the upper level, plus larger decks, a swimming pool & cabana, shed and landscaping.

 

The eventual design resulted in a simple black box placed on top a rear lean-to part of the existing house. The existing house is an immaculately renovated late-federation project home and as such the design is intended to not detract from the existing streetscape and minimise the impact on the already renovated internal parts of the building.  When viewed from the rear, however, the new works present as a completely different & contemporary building with a luxurious, resort-style back yard swimming pool & landscaping.
