ROSEVILLE RESIDENCE

Victoria Street, Roseville, NSW

The client purchased this run-down but heritage listed house, more or less sight unseen.  Her brief to us was a bit of an odd one: to create a large family home but one that could be split to allow full-time caretakers / tenants to live upstairs and to leave the downstairs part of the home secure and available for the owner to live intermittently when they are in Australia. The client’s eventual plan is to relocate permanently to Australia and at that time the house will be whole again.

The proposal incorporates 5 large bedrooms (4 with ensuites), a study, large kitchen & dining room, formal living areas, generous external decks from the main living rooms and an upstairs games room adjacent to & accessed directly through the children’s bedrooms.  A new 2-car garage, renovation of an existing outhouse and extensive landscaping round out the development.

Due to the heritage listing of the house and the eventual arrangement of the plan, limited opportunities were available for us to add our usual contemporary addition to older, existing buildings.  The resulting architectural form is akin to an extrusion of the existing building shape with detailing to match.  A new standalone garage has been designed to complement and match the existing building, thus creating a carefully crafted, very sympathetic and much needed improvement to an important piece of Ku-Ring-Gai’s environmental heritage.

Status: Under construction.
