THIRROUL RESIDENCE 2
Phillip Street, Thirroul, NSW

Out of a truly bizarre brief we were able to create a new, light filled & flowing space for a growing family. When were initially approached by clients they were living below their parents in a 1980s cottage in a pseudo granny flat. Being a young family with small children they needed a significant rear addition to call their own. Part of the brief was to create more open living & entertaining space and to provide free-flowing access to the beautiful gardens and outlook to the escarpment behind. Up on stilts, we designed a heated polished slab with lightweight framed walls to support high ceilings and wide-span openings. The internal walls feature unique curves that seamlessly become the ceiling while streamlined kitchen joinery and extensive light & circulation deliver a true inside-out lifestyle.
The result is a truly multi-generational dwelling where the client’s parents still live in their original house upstairs (that they built themselves in the 1980’s) with the next two generations living in their own separate but interconnected home below.
Status: Completed 2013.
